Zoe Cokkinos
February 14, 1926 - April 6, 2016
Passed away on April 6th in her 90th year. Predeceased by her beloved son Theodore in 1985. Also predeceased by sisters Georgia, Lilika, Merope and brother Apostolis. Survived by sisters Marika and Ero along with many nieces and nephews.
Zoe came to Canada with her husband in 1954 and in 1960 she opened Zoe, her couturier boutique at Bloor and Balmuto Streets.
As a young woman in Greece, Zoe grew up with a love of fine fabrics and fashion. Her self-taught and outstanding design skills enabled her to build a thriving business and professional reputation in Canada. Her clothes were known for their classic elegance, luxurious fabrics and high quality of workmanship. For more than forty years, she dressed a variety of discerning women who appreciated her extraordinary talents. In 1992 she received the City of Toronto Couturier Award, presented to her by the Mayor, for excellence in Fashion Design. With her elegant stature and engaging personality, Zoe was her own best advertisement. Her warmth and charm led to life-long friendships with many of her clients.
Along with her demanding business, she also found the time to devote to the Greek community, especially the Hellenic Home for the Aged, where ultimately she spent the last six and a half years of her life, due to Alzheimer's disease. A heart felt thank you to the staff at the Hellenic Home, Scarborough, for their compassion and care for Zoe. A visitation will be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd., Toronto, (east gate entrance) on Saturday, April 9th from 11-12pm followed by a Service in the chapel. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery. If desired donations to the Hellenic Home for the Aged, Scarborough, would be appreciated by the family. Condolences and online donations may be made at etouch.ca
