It is with deepest sorrow that we share the passing of Zafaria (Rula) Aneroussis at the age of 96+, on Monday, December 22nd, with loved ones by her side. She was a loving wife of 45 years to Yianni (predeceased), mother to Katia (predeceased) (Konstantin) and Eris, devoted grandmother (Yaya) to Tania, Nicole (predeceased), Eric (Erica), and Justin, and great-grandmother to Athena, Isabelle, Sophia, Drena and Callie. Rula was also a beloved Aunt to Dido (predeceased), Elsa, Mani and Marianna. She will be lovingly missed by many other family members.

Rula was born in Drama, Greece, on May 13, 1929, the youngest of 5 children. Her family relocated to Germany during WWII, but eventually returned to Greece after the war. Rula met and married Yianni in 1955. They immigrated to Canada in 1956, settling in the east end of Toronto, where they worked hard and raised 3 children. In 1968, the family moved to Scarborough, where Rula lived for her remaining years. Rula took great pride in her home, which was always open and welcoming to her many friends and family. She constantly delighted everyone with her delicious cooking and baking, and nothing made her happier than gathering her loved ones around the table, enjoying an ouzo or a glass of wine, and leaving fully satisfied.

Rula was intensely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, unceasingly protective of them and always concerned for their well-being. She shared her wisdom and life lessons frankly, but always with a sense of humour, striving to ensure that they would make the most of their opportunities and success in life.

A fiercely independent woman, Rula was always able to look after herself in her own home and was a force of nature right until the end. Her stories, cooking, indomitable spirit, and so much more make her a true inspiration for a life well-lived, and she will be missed beyond words by her devoted family and all who loved her.

Visitation will be at Pine Hills Cemetery on Monday, December 29th, from 10:00-11:00 AM, with service and internment to follow. The family extends their thanks to everyone for their kind words and support during this difficult time.
