It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yukie Asa, who passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Stouffville, Ontario, at the age of 88.
Born in New Westminster, B.C., to Shingo and Tsuyako Sumioka, Yukie endured many challenges early in life, including wartime internment in Manitoba and later repatriation to Japan. She completed her schooling in Hiroshima, where she developed a lifelong passion for the arts, including painting, Chadō (Japanese tea ceremony), and Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging).
She is survived by her beloved husband, Roy; her children, Bryan (Maiko), Anne (Steven), Shane (Mizuho), and Andrew (Suwan); her grandchildren, Kei, Emi, Sydney, and Ariel; her sister, Joyce Nagai; and her brother, Tatsumi Sumioka. Yukie’s gentle spirit and bright smile will be dearly missed and will be forever cherished. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and laughter that will live on in all who knew her.
Yukie will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and creativity. Her words carried wisdom, her actions radiated grace, and her sparkling eyes offered comfort and joy.
A private family-only memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice, or honour Yukie by pausing to appreciate a quiet moment in nature—just as she so often did.
