Yuk Ying Margaret Lum
October 25, 1931 – December 12, 2025
Yuk Ying Margaret Lum, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on December 12, 2025, with her daughter Lynn and son Stephen by her side.
Margaret was born in China in 1931, the youngest of eight children. Her mother was 49 at the time of her birth, and her father was in his sixties. When Margaret was just two years old, her father passed away, leaving her mother to raise the family as a single parent under challenging circumstances.
In the late 1950s, Margaret immigrated to Canada as a young bride. She and her husband later welcomed four children and built a life rooted in family, resilience, and community.
Margaret had a vibrant spirit and many interests, including traveling, ballroom dancing, singing, playing mahjong, and fashion. She lived life fully and energetically—so much so that her children often joked they needed appointments to see their parents. Spirituality was deeply important to her, and she recently converted to Catholicism. Her faith and her church support group brought her great comfort and strength in her later years.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bing Fai Lum, in 2021. She is survived by her children: daughter Nancy (David) and grandson Brian; daughter Lynn (Jeff) and grandson Stan and granddaughter Ami (Kim), great-granddaughter Sami, and cherished fur babies Sweet Pea, Topaz, and QuiQui; son Stephen and grandson Christopher; and daughter Grace (partner Al) and grandson Michael (Victoria), great-granddaughter Adaline, and fur babies Daisy and Diesel.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the St. Elizabeth care team for their compassionate and attentive care, as well as to cousin Teresa Chan and Margaret’s church group for their unwavering support. Regular visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren along with little John brought her great joy as family was always central to her life.
