Kwan, Yin Fong (born Au, Yin Fong), 69, died peacefully in the early morning of January 7th, 2014 at St. Michael's hospital. She is survived by her husband Pak Ho, and her children, David and Michael, daughter-in-law Jinkie, 8 younger sisters and 1 younger brother, and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many other family and friends.

Yin Fong was born on April 9, 1944, during the occupation of Hong Kong, in the turbulent times of World War II. After the war, Yin Fong continued to live in Hong Kong, and she developed a love for music (esp. Elvis and the Beatles) and sports (swimming and basketball). After completing high school, she worked with her siblings in the family business.

In October 1973, she married the love of her life, Pak Ho Kwan, and remained happily married for the next 40 years. On September 17, 1974, Yin Fong gave birth to their first child, David. In 1975, the Kwan family decided to start a new life and emigrated to Toronto, Canada. A year later, on May 19, 1976, Yin Fong gave birth to her second son, Michael.

She continued to be an avid athlete, seen playing pick up basketball in her son's school yard and swimming in lakes and pools in the summer. During the winter, she took her sons tobogganing and skating. She particularly loved going fish, camping, hiking, boating, and travelling with her family and friends. They made frequent trips all over Ontario, Quebec and the eastern coast of the United States.

Yin Fong worked in the garment industry for many years, where she developed close friendships with her co-workers.

Like many first generation mothers, Yin Fong devoted much of her life to her family and sacrificed much to raising her two sons. One of her proudest moments in her life was to see both David and Michael graduate from University.

May she finally rest in peace.
