On May 7, peacefully and quickly, with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his devoted wife Yvonne (nee King), his sons Michael (Marnie) and Edward (Becky), his beloved grandchildren Devin and Charlotte, his brother Ronald (Genevieve), and countless cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Winfred was born in Shanghai, China, but spent his formative years in Hong Kong before moving to Canada in 1961 to study Architecture at McGill University. He lived the rest of his life in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.
Winfred enjoyed a successful early career with several architectural firms before moving on to a distinguished career with Public Works Canada.
He left all those whose lives he touched with more laughs than they otherwise would have had.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Winfred's memory to either Parkinson Canada or the Markham/Stouffville Hospital.
And we will end this here before he gets annoyed that it's going on too long.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 30, from 1:00 - 3:00pm, at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre (1591 Elgin Mills Rd E, Richmond Hill).
Guests are asked to bring a smile, along with their fondest memories or funniest stories of Winny. Guests are also kindly requested to wear casual and comfortable clothing, and are encouraged to wear clothing with the logo of either the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, or Green Bay Packers; or clothing representing McGill University, York University, or University of Waterloo.
Light refreshments will be served along with, obviously, wine. Winny always said he wanted a party, not a funeral.
Finally, friends and family who have favourite digital photos of Winny are invited to email them to Ed (edward.jhu@gmail.com) in advance of the celebration. Ed will assemble them into a slideshow for the celebration.
