It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Violet Winona Morse (née Pilgrim).
Violet—our beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and community member—was born in Kitty, Georgetown, Guyana on December 17, 1933 to parents Alfred and Juliet Pilgrim. Violet was the second of siblings Linette, Elaine, and Malcom. The former two of which have previously passed on.
Kind and caring by nature, Violet was always the first to offer help when needed—a quality that served her well when arriving in Canada in 1959 and working with families as a housekeeper. Her dedicated spirit also helped in her 30 years working as a Nursing and Nutritional Aide at Women’s College Hospital.
Violet loved to travel, and always had a passion for music and dancing. She was the type who could dance anytime, anywhere—and she’d always be the first to take over the dance floor.
Violet sadly passed away on June 27, 2026 at age 92.
She was tragically predeceased by her beloved husband, William "Bill" Morse, in 1994. However, she is survived by her children Juliette (Alvin) Frank and Sharon (Christopher) Service, her twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Friends and relatives of Violet are invited to join her family on Friday, July 10, 2026 for a viewing from 10am to 11am at The Simple Alternatives Funeral Centre in Pickering. Immediately after which a funeral service will take place, at 11am.
Following the service, Violet will be interred at Pine Hills Cemetery in Scarborough, alongside her husband. Family and friends are welcome to visit and pay their respects.
The family would also like to invite everyone to join them in wearing blue—Violet's favourite colour—or other colourful attire when attending the funeral service. Violet was a lively lady, and we would like to reflect that in our dress.
Violet will be deeply missed, but as she leaves us, she too leaves her love in our hearts.
‘Till we meet again, Violet.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in Violet's memory to Women's College Foundation or a cancer charity of your choice would be appreciated.
There will be a livestream of the service via Zoom on July 10th at 10:50am, with the service beginning at 11am.
For those who wish to join us in remembering Violet in this way, the meeting information is as follows:
