VIOLET HAYDEN October 8, 1915 - January 18, 2016 It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Violet Hayden (nee Irving) at Scarborough General Hospital. Loving mother of Patricia Hayden, Audrey (Joseph Drage), Sylvia (Glen Cowell), Wesley (Teresa Hurlbut). Loving and proud Nana of Tonya and Philip Walker, Patrick and Jennifer Hayden, Jeffrey Hayden and Kara Patrick and great-grandmother (Nanny) to Noah and Emma Walker. She is remembered fondly by family and friends in Ireland and England. Born in Dublin, Ireland 100 years ago to William and Margaret Irving. A graduate of Ross College, Dublin. She was predeceased by her brothers William and Henry. In 1954, Violet with her husband Robert and four children immigrated to Canada in order to provide a better life for her family. Violet was a long-term employee of the Kendall Company in a time when mothers rarely worked outside of the home. A truly modern independent woman. In her retirement, she enjoyed travel, her garden and her family. She was the strength of the family and took care of all for many years. The family would like to express its deep gratitude for the kind and compassionate care Violet received from the dedicated staff of the palliative care department of SGH. They made her final journey a peaceful one. Friends may call at the Simple Alternative - York Visitation Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto M2N 5Z5, 416-221-3404, on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Service will be in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. If you wish, a donation to the Scarborough General Hospital Foundation, the War Amps of Canada or the charity of your choice in Violet's memory would be appreciated.
