It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Velissarios Polizos who passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Born in Theriakisi, Amfilochias, Greece, Velissarios came to Canada in the fall of 1967 after serving in the Greek military. Here he built a life rooted in hard work, family, and tradition. Velissarios met the love of his life, Kalliopi on October 29, 1969 and they were married on March 1, 1970, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and care.

Velissarios was predeceased by his beloved parents, Harilaos and Theodosia, his siblings Sotiris, Maria, Konstantinos and Zaneta. He will be deeply missed by his surviving siblings Sofia, Theodoros, Theofania and Sotirios.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Kalliopi; his cherished children, Haroula (Gino) and Harry (Helen) and his adored grandchildren, Zoe, William and Anthony, who were the pride and joy of his life.

Velissarios will be fondly remembered for his passion for life’s simple and meaningful pleasures, his famous lamb on the spit and kokoretsi at Easter, his love of running, tending to his garden, and his deep appreciation for music especially the clarinet. Above all, he was a devoted grandfather who never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren at their sporting events.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will take place at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre on Thursday March 26, 2026 from 4:00pm-8:00pm and at Sts. Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 10:00am-11:00am.

The Funeral Service will be held at Sts. Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 11:00am-11:45am followed by the burial service at Elgin Mills Cemetery.
