In Loving Memory of Theodoros “Terry” Lyberopoulos
March 9, 1946 – October 12, 2025
Theodoros “Terry” Lyberopoulos’ story began in Hora, Greece; a small village where olive trees grow the way life should: slowly, honestly, and with love. He carried that same heart across the sea, shaping his story and the lives of everyone who knew him.
The son of Andreas and Panagiota, and brother to Dimitra, Effie, and Aristea, Theodoros came to Canada in 1964 with more hope than words and a belief that something better awaited him. The early years were long and demanding, but when his boss introduced him to a Scarborough barber about to retire, the life he was meant to live took shape.
By 1968, he took over a shop at Kennedy and Lawrence: two red chairs and a dream larger than the space itself. For fifty-two years, Terry’s Barber Shop became part of the community’s fabric. People came to talk, laugh, and watch every soccer match. Everyone knew him. Everyone loved him.
In 1970, he met Giannoula Panopoulos. They married that same year and soon began their greatest work together: raising three children, Panagiota (Patty), Vasiliki (Bessie), and Andreas (Andy). Guided by their faith in God, they built a life big in every way that mattered: full of love, hard work, and moments that lasted. When times were hard, they turned to prayer and to each other.
He lived long enough to see the life he built come full circle. He watched his daughters get married and become mothers. They gave him the joy of his grandchildren, Krisoula, Stavros, Tasos, and Ioanna, each a piece of his heart. He saw his son chase his dreams, always cheering him on. One of his proudest late-life joys was living to see his grandson Stavros get married. He lived for his family. His generosity was selfless, his kindness was constant, and his humour lit up every room. His legacy will live on in every life he touched.
There wasn’t a Trifilion dance or Greek festival he missed, usually first to arrive and last to leave, ready to throw down a zeibekiko. He was fiercely loyal to Olympiacos, his soccer team for life. Even in his final days, his eyes lit up at the mention of the game.
In August 2020, he fell ill, a twist of fate that tested the strength of both him and his family. Through every challenge, his faith never wavered. Even on his hardest days, he prayed and reminded his loved ones how much he cared.
On October 12, 2025, Theodoros passed peacefully, surrounded by his devoted wife and loving children. In that moment, he was carried home by the same love he gave so freely, welcomed into the hands of God.
Theodoros is survived by his wife, Giannoula; his children, Panagiota, Vasiliki, and Andreas; his grandchildren, Krisoula, Stavros, Tasos, and Ioanna; his sister, Aristea; and his sons-in-law, Danny Kotsopoulos and George Kotsirilos. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the love, prayers, and support.
