Taner Ariburnu
January 5, 1942 - March 28, 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of Şükrü Taner Arıburnu announces his passing after a long battle with cancer, on the morning of Monday, March 28, 2016, at the age of 74 years.
A native of Kütahya, Turkey, Taner attended Istanbul Technical University, and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1963 and enjoyed a successful career as an Avionics and Aerospace Systems Engineer for nearly half a century in three different countries. Taner immigrated with his family to Canada in 1982 and proudly obtained dual citizenship (Turkish and Canadian) in 1985.
Taner is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Barıs and his children, Ömer (Mona) and Ali (Becky). Taner will also be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren, Justin, Sydney, Sadie, Kaya and Leila, by his sister, Hüner (Tuğrul), by sister-in-laws Güzin (Tahir) Atamer, Ayfer (Sedat) Gül, and by brother-in-law Hasan Berköz.
A Funeral Service in memory of Taner was held on Wednesday, March 30th, at 11:00 a.m., at The Simple Alternative, Pickering, Ontario Canada with Rev. Jeff Doucette officiating. Interment followed at Duffin Meadow Cemetery.
A special thank you to Dr. Carmine Simone at Toronto East General Hospital for giving us more time with our beloved Taner.
The family wishes to pay many thanks to Dr. Albiruni Razak and the entire oncology team at Mount Sinai Hospital, for their professionalism, hope and compassion in the year Taner was in your care.
A very special thanks to Central CCAC, Markham Stouffville Palliate Care Team under Drs. Jeanne Huo and Andy Patterson, the Saint Elizabeth Health Care palliative home care team lead by coordinating nurse Betty with nurses Joyce, Precious, and George, Shahla Kara, and finally the palliative nursing staff at the Markham-Stouffville Hospital for the care and comfort Taner received in his latter days.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Taner to the Canadian Cancer Society, Sinai Health Foundation, Saint Elizabeth Foundation or the Markham-Stouffville Hospital Foundation.
