Susan grew up in Scarborough with her loving parents, James and Irene, and her
brothers, Bruce and Paul.
Later in her life, she chose the career of nursing. Working at North York General Hospital with compassion for the patients she cared for.
In 1981 , she had her pride and joy, Mark, whom she shared with Mark’s father Fred.
At the behest of her father in 1986, Susan joined the Toronto Police Service as a civilian member. This made the family a multi-generational policing family. Susan worked in various fields of policing for nearly three decades.
In 1981, Susan was assigned to the 42 Division working as a Station Duty Operator. She was very popular and held in high regard by her colleagues. Always ready and willing to help. Lighting up the room with her presence, with her smile and twinkle in her eyes. She brought a smile to all. It was at 42 that she met Grant, her husband.
In 2015, Susan retired from the Police Service. In her retirement, she kept busy with her niche and love of gardening and learning how to quilt. Creating beautiful pieces and baking with love and effort for all to enjoy. And of course her passion for genealogy, researching in depth, her Irish heritage.
She loved the country road excursion in pursuit of seeing a deer.
Susan was a valiant defender of her family. Having a strong influence on her brothers, guiding them through the challenges in life that they encountered.
But the priority in her life was Mark and the grandchildren.
After a courageous battle of four years, keeping the Banshee at bay, Susan succumbed to her illness.
Susan is survived by her son, Mark Hiegel, and his wife, Zoe (nee Cook,) and granddaughters, Charlotte and Amelia;
Her brother Bruce and his wife, Laura (nee Kesicki), and niece Leeann;

Her stepdaughter Jenna Rhodes (nee Gillespie) and her husband, Keith, and grandchildren, Blake and Logan;
Sister-in-laws Hazel Bonneville and Carol Herd;
Forever in my heart and with Eternal love -
