Surinder (Billy) Kalsi passed away on Wednesday, December 28th, 2022, surrounded by her children.

She met each day knowing that life was never given but earned through honesty, being humble and lifting the lives of those around her.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya to Balwant Singh and Tar Kaur Panesar, she was one of nine siblings who was very spirited with a captivating smile and a big heart.

Never complacent, she always set her sights in succeeding at everything she put her mind to; spanning a spectrum of activities where there were no limits to what she could achieve.

On marrying she moved to Kampala, Uganda to live with her husband Satwant Singh Kalsi until 1972 when, together with their four children (Navraj, Deepy, Ruby and Bobby) and other Ugandan Asians, they had to flee the country as refugees.

Arriving in England, she opted for a house in a small town called Brampton, Cumbria. Her husband passed away in 1978, and the responsibility to raise her four children rested solely on her shoulders.

She subsequently joined Cumbria County Council where she took a position in the Superannuation Department, and on her retirement in 1996, she left the same section having successfully become the Head of Department.

In 1998 she moved to Canada where she enjoyed the opportunity to spend her retirement life with family and childhood friends.

She left this world peacefully having left a footprint in many people’s lives, and for all those who knew her, she will be known as a unique and beautiful human being who loved unconditionally, laughed constantly, and gave words of wisdom that helped many people.
