With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father Sunshine Gong on October 11, 2025, at the age of 93. He leaves peacefully behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and joyful living.
Our father was born in Anhui, China on July 27, 1932, the second child in his family. After the Second World War, he and his elder sister journeyed to Taiwan to reunite with their father—a pivotal move that would shape the course of his life. He went on to graduate from National Taiwan University and embarked on a distinguished career that spanned continents and decades.
Among his many roles, our father worked for the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Taiwan’s trade. His work in trade promotion, took him all over the world, where he did his work with dedication and pride.
In later years, our father shifted his focus toward philanthropy and cultural preservation, dedicating himself to a Private Charitable Foundation with his long time friend. It was a job that was tailor-made for his passion.
Those who knew our father will remember his tireless energy, cheerful disposition, and unshakable optimism. He approached life with curiosity and courage, never hesitating to try something new or offer a smile.
In his later years, our parents moved to Toronto, Canada, to be near their daughter Susan and grandsons Harrison and Austen. For the past three years, our father lived with our Mom in a warm, and caring nursing home, where he left peacefully in his sleep.
He lived his name—bringing light and warmth wherever he went. May he rest in peace.
