STEPHEN KENT TILLEY
March 20, 1957 – May 28, 2015
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Steve, dear husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, colleague, friend, at the age of 58.
Steve was the beloved husband of Nancy Del Col for 23 years and a loving father to Aidan and Olivia. Cherished son of Dawson and the late Marie Tilley of Montreal. Dear brother of Michael Tilley (Michigan) and James Tilley (Montreal). Deeply missed by father-in-law Americo Del Col (Mary), brother and sister-in-law Steve and Jacquelene Del Col, niece Dominique (Scott), nephews Taylor, Nicholas and Matthew, and Cathy Tilley. Fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins and wide circle of friends and colleagues.
Steve was born in Montreal and spent his teen years in Calgary at Lord Beaverbrook High School where he was valedictorian for the class of 1975. At Western University he joined Delta Upsilon fraternity and graduated in 1978 (BA, Economics). Steve’s professional career in the dental industry took him from London to Edmonton (Denco) and Toronto (Dental Services Group, SciCan), where he met Nancy and settled for good, moving to Markham in 1998. In 2005 he started Tilley Del Col & Associates Ltd., an independent sales agency for the dental market.
In Alberta Steve developed his love for outdoor sports and adventure, skiing, golfing, hunting, camping and especially car racing. He built a Datsun 240Z which he raced at Mosport, Shannonville and Watkins Glen. His favourite place was the family cottage on 12 Mile Lake in Haliburton, where he could build, boat, cook gourmet meals and make mean gin and tonics.
Steve was a sales professional, technician, mechanic, chef, carpenter, race car driver, hockey coach, athlete, theatre goer, problem solver and eternal optimist. He was passionate about his work and even more so, his family. To Nancy he was best friend and confidante, to his children a nurturing guide and role model. How we will miss your hearty laugh, big smiles and inspired cooking.
Heartfelt thanks go to the nurses and doctors at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. If desired, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Visitation for Steve will be held at Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto on Thursday, June 4 from 4-8 pm and Friday, June 5 from 11 am – 12pm followed by a service in the chapel at 12 p.m.
Online condolences, details and directions at www.etouch.ca
