Stanley Tam (or, affectionately, Stan the Man) passed away peacefully at age 25 on Wednesday, January 27th, 2016, surrounded by family and friends at Princess Margaret Hospital after an 8-month battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Stanley was born on June 17, 1990 and is the eldest of two siblings. He attended Port Royal Public School, where his personal timeout chair in kindergarten was a testament to his lively spirt. Throughout his time at Port Royal, Stanley honed talents in piano performance, Tae Kwon Do, ice skating and hockey.

Later, he attended Albert Campbell High School, where his genuine nature earned him many lifelong friends. He then attended Ryerson University for Accounting and Finance, where he dedicated countless hours to student life as the VP of Finance for DECA Ryerson. Stanley was a talented orator who was awarded several medals for winning case competitions in Accounting, Finance and Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

In June 2015, weeks before his diagnosis, Stanley completed his first Sporting Life 10km run, and began a milestone new job at IBM as a Financial Analyst. He is also fondly remembered as a dedicated power lifter, guitar player, food connoisseur, and major fan of Toronto-based sports teams, particularly the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He was an avid reader, and had strong personal and professional interests in entrepreneurship and finance. During his treatment, Stanley continued to work tirelessly towards his goal of becoming a Certified Management Accountant, earning his CMA designation in October 2015.

Stanley is survived by his younger sister, Vivian Tam, his parents, David Tam and May Chang, and leaves behind a loving girlfriend, Janet Lam.

Above all, Stanley will never be forgotten for the kindness he showed all those fortunate enough to meet him, as well as for the optimism and perseverance he demonstrated in facing all obstacles. Please join us in remembering Stanley at services detailed below. To facilitate attendance, two visitations are available; the first will be held on the evening of Thursday, February 4th from 5:00pm-9:00pm, with the second on Friday morning from 9:00am-10:30am. Please save the date, as more details will be made available soon.

Throughout his battle with lymphoma, one of Stanley’s wishes was to donate to cancer research, and specifically to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. Please consider making a donation in his name, and we thank you for helping us to honour him. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-leukemia-lymphoma-society-of-canada-societe-de-leucemie-lymphome-du-canada/
