Somona Gupta
August 17, 1963 - March 4, 2015
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Somona Gupta, at Cummer Lodge Long Term Care Facility. She is survived by her parents, Gunendra Gupta, Prem Lata Gupta, her brother Sonjoy and his wife Anne Ellis.
Born with Hydrocephalus causing lower body paralysis, Somona faced difficult challenges, including multiple surgeries spanning several years at Montreal Children’s Hospital. She grew up in Kingston Ontario where she finished high school and graduated from St. Lawrence College, Kingston, majoring in Fine Arts.
Relocating to Toronto, Ontario in 1989 with her parents, Somona attended Ryerson University, part-time program in Disabilities Studies. During this time, she advocated for physically & mentally challenged persons.
She enjoyed drawing, painting and photography, which took her all over the GTA photographing major events, speeches and concerts for local media.
In her short 51 years, Somona touched, enriched and inspired countless people, challenging them to see past their own limitations and those set by others.
