Snezana Munk died from cancer on March 30th, 2015 at the age of 64. She was born on February 23, 1951 to Veljko and Mirej Cvijovic, in Bor, a small town in South East Yugoslavia and moved to Belgrade at 2 years of age. Known as Zani to family and friends, she went to the University of Belgrade and studied Italian and Sociology. Zani was married to Dorian Munk in 1971, and celebrated the birth of her son Dorian (Jr.) that year. In 1976, Zani and Dorian, with their 5 year old son, boarded a plane and arrived in Canada to start their new life. As with most immigrants, the first 2 years involved struggles and successes. Zani took a large step back to work in a factory for 2 years. These efforts lead to a move to Etobicoke and a new house in 1978. This was followed by the birth of her second son Andrew in 1979 who brought more joy to her life in Canada. After settling in Etobicoke, she graduated from Humber College as a medical technologist while working nights at McDonalds. Soon thereafter, Zani found a research position at Sick Kids where for 5 years she fuelled her passion investigating cures for diabetes. This led to her professional pride and joy, researching diabetes at the University of Toronto for 27 years under the guidance of her mentor and boss Dr. Whiteside. After retiring, she spent time travelling, visiting numerous friends and family around the globe, and tending to her grandchildren.

Zani and her husband of 44 years, Dorian, raised two children together- Dorian (Lyane) and Andrew (Taylor). They survive her, together with their 6 grandchildren (Nadia, Jessica, Alex, Ian, Grant and Zach), 2 sisters (Vesna and Lilly), and many other beloved family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice.
