In memory of

Sitalakshmi (Sita) Ramanujam

May 10, 1938 - July 27, 2026

Passed away peacefully at Kensington Gardens in Toronto on July 27, 2026. Sita was born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India on May 10, 1938 to Sabena Samavedam and Samuel Ramanujam. She studied history, economics and politics at the University of Madras, earning both BA and MA degrees. This was followed by studies in Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare. Moving to Canada in 1968, she lived most of her life in the Annex neighbourhood in Toronto.

Sita had a long and distinguished career in the public and private sectors. She served as a Human Rights Officer; Regional Manager of the Human Rights Commission; Manager of the Unit for the Handicapped; Coordinator of Human Resource Planning at the Ministry of Labour; Senior Compliance Coordinator at the Ontario Human Rights Commission; and lastly as an independent Equality Rights and Human Resources Consultant. Sita was intelligent, dedicated, elegant and generous.

Sita was predeceased by her brother S. Ram Narasimam, his wife Jeevamani and his sons, S. Sunil Kumar, Raj and Anil Kumar; also by her brother Samavedam Vera Raja Sekhar. Sita is survived by Sunil’s wife Swaroopa Rani Sunil Kumar, his daughter Hemeema, and his son Jeremiah; Raj’s wife, Shanthi; Anil’s wife, Veena; Sekhar’s wife Kripamoyee (Kripa) Mondal, and his daughters Shimona and Aparna.

Sita's memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 10th at St. Matthew's United Church, 729 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario, followed by light refreshments.
