In Loving Memory of Simon Cheung (Cheung Yuk Ming 張玉明)
December 19, 1955 – September 26, 2025
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Simon Cheung—beloved husband, devoted father, respected colleague, and treasured friend—on September 26, 2025, at Markham Stouffville Hospital. He was surrounded by those who loved him most.
Born in Hong Kong on December 19, 1955, Simon was the eldest son of the late Cheung Sun Hong (張信康) and Cheung-Chan Fung Ngau (張鳳娥). Raised in a traditional Shanghainese household that prized resilience, humility, and family bonds, Simon carried those values with him across oceans when he immigrated to Canada.
A gifted and innovative mind in the field of Information Technology, Simon spent most of his professional career as a Senior Software Analyst and Developer at Toyota Canada Inc. and Honda Canada Inc. Yet Simon’s life was far more than his work. A tennis and ski enthusiast, spirited hiker, and passionate globe-trotter, he lived each day with purpose and curiosity. He valued health, balance, and the kind of experiences that create lasting memories with others.
At the heart of Simon’s world was his family. He was a loving husband and a devoted father—steady, selfless, and fiercely protective of those he loved. To his wife, Judy, he was a true partner in every sense: thoughtful, dependable, and deeply caring. To his son, Ryan, Simon was not only a guiding presence but also a source of inspiration—offering wisdom through actions more than words, leading by example, and always encouraging with patience and pride. Simon’s love for his family was evident in everyday things and the way he always put their needs ahead of his own.
To his friends, a warm and generous host, Simon created a home that was always open, filled with laughter, delicious meals, and fun conversations. His calm presence and boundless generosity left an indelible mark on all, lucky enough to know him.
Simon is survived by his beloved wife Judy Mao, his treasured son Ryan Cheung, and his four loving siblings. He will also be dearly missed by his uncle and aunt, his cousins, nieces, nephews and many extended family members and friends whose lives were brightened by his presence.
A funeral/memorial service with a reception will be held on October 4, 2025, at Elgin Mills Cemetery. All who know and love Simon are warmly invited to join in celebrating his remarkable life.
In loving memory of Simon, whose life was cut short by cancer, the family kindly requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society:https://cancer.ca/en/?utm_campaign=DJ&utm_medium=redirect to fund lifesaving research to find cure so that future patients can be relieved from the sufferings of the disease and more families will be spared from the sorrows of losing loved ones.
Forever remembered. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
