Obituary for Simon Kaufman
August 3, 1932 – November 26, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Kaufman, who left this world peacefully on November 26, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on August 3, 1932, in Yugoslavia, Simon’s life was a remarkable journey of resilience, courage, and quiet strength.
Simon’s early years were marked by hardship. In pursuit of safety and a better future, he left behind everything familiar his childhood home, his family, his roots and embarked on a journey to Canada. His story was so extraordinary that he was personally sponsored into the country by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, a rare honour that spoke to his character, determination, and the unique path that shaped his life.
In Canada, Simon built a life defined by hard work, kindness, and unwavering integrity. He was known for his love of cars, his daily rituals of coffee and cake, and the countless stories he collected over a long and full life. His gentle spirit, humour, and wisdom touched everyone lucky enough to know him.
Simon also carried a deep and enduring love for his late wife, who passed away on December 23, 2011. Their bond was unbreakable, even after her passing. Today, we take comfort in knowing that Simon has been reunited with her. Finding peace beside one another after so many years apart.
At 16, Cathy entered Simon’s life, and the connection between them remained constant for decades. Their friendship and loyalty stood the test of time, and our family was truly blessed to have Simon as part of our lives.
In his final chapter, Simon was surrounded with love and gratitude. Caring for him was a profound honour, and even in his last days he continued to show the strength and bravery that defined his life.
Simon will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he carried with him. He leaves behind a family who cherished him, and who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Rest in peace, Simon.
Reunited with your beloved wife at last. Your journey, your courage, and your memory will live on forever.
