Shirley Kathleen Mulligan
October 26, 1924 - May 5, 2014
Shirley quietly left us to join her beloved husband Frank (2013), parents James and Nora Largy and sister, Patricia Priel. Her vibrancy was ravaged by a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Shirley leaves behind the aching hearts of her children Kathryn (Bob Tuttle), Maureen and Gerald (Danielle), her granddaughters Nora and Eva, Anne, Lori, Kimberley and Heather, great-grandchildren Anthony and Austin, Aidan, Abby, Ethan, nephew Jim Priel (Joanne), brother’s-in-law Joe Priel and John Mulligan.
Shirley’s life was punctuated with countless family gatherings and extensive travelling following Frank’s retirement in 1989. Her involvement and generous gift of time was valued and welcomed in the lives of her children and granddaughters. She leaves a legacy of love, devotion and exceptional loyalty to those she loved; virtues to be honoured and emulated by her family.
Growing up in rural Quebec on the family farm in Ascot Corner in the 1920’s and ‘30’s, this landscape eventually became Shirley’s familiar homestead once again, as all but those memories remained with her. How sad to lose her in our time and place, yet how grateful we are that such a happy childhood could be revisited. A lifetime of memory making, Shirley leaves us to our own reminiscences which we hold dear and will recall often, and with immense affection.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to Drs. Gihane Zarifa and Catherine Cheung who provided seamless care for Shirley until she became a resident of Specialty Care in Mississauga in 2013. Grateful thanks are extended to the dedicated and exceptionally caring staff at Specialty Care and Dr. Errol Sequeira, for the exemplary care Shirley received. Christine S., you were a bright light in Shirley’s day ~ thank you for your companionship.
Make many happy memories as your own legacy for those you love.
"Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o'er fraught heart and bids it break." William Shakespeare
