Shirley Ellen Sellon
February 25, 1928 - November 18, 2015
Shirley Ellen Sellon (nee Auld Feb 25 1928 – Nov 18 2015)
Shirley passed peacefully on November 18 in her 88th year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George of 67 years, and sister Marilyn Sinclair. Shirley leaves behind her children Dianne (Ron), Rick (Lisa), Lorrie (Steven) and grandchildren Scott (Lyndsay), Adam, Christopher, Katie, Jordan and Nicole and great grandsons Jaydyn and Jaxon. She also leaves behind brother Bob Auld (Pat), brother in law Al Sinclair and sister in law Barb Davison. .
Shirley lived for family and even in her last few weeks her grandchildren were able to bring a smile to her face and wink to her eye. Her determined (some would say stubborn!) Irish temperament was legendary and stayed with her right until the end. Shirley loved her Leaside community and cherished the life she shared with family and friends on Divadale Drive. She was a homemaker for most of her married life but enjoyed working as a babysitter at Northlea United Church for the Young Wives Group. The small amount of money that she earned there meant the world to her and provided her some financial independence that she fiercely guarded.
George christened his pontoon boat the ‘Shirley Girl II’ and many summer afternoons were spent cruising the shores of Moore Lake and partaking in the odd alcoholic libation. The family would like those who loved her to smile and remember our ‘Shirley Girl’ as the very caring lady that she was and be comforted knowing that, in the end, she was ready to join ‘Pop’ in the afterlife.
Family and friends will be received at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre – 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, in the Red and White Rooms on Sunday November 22nd from 1- 3 pm. If you wish to express your sympathies please consider a donation to the YMCA of Greater Toronto – Strong Kids Campaign. Donations can be made through the website www.whydonate.org.
