It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sew Yin Christiane Leung Kwok Sheung, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a most remarkable woman. She passed away peacefully at her home in Toronto on December 12, 2025 at the age of 94. She is now reunited with our beloved father, Kwok Sheung - her first love and husband of 52 years.

Our mother’s nurturing spirit, unwavering support, and boundless love will forever live on in the hearts of her children Hervé (Alena), André (Catherine), Roger (Anita), Désiré (Joyce), Christine (James).

She was a cherished grandmother to Jenny (Jackson), Timothy, William (Clémentine), Cécilia, Ravinder (Brigita), Kiran, Inès, Florent, Floriane (Fabien), Jessica (Steven), and a proud great-grandmother to Nathan, Marcus, Brandon, Ezra and Lucien.

Born in Port Louis, Mauritius, Sew Yin worked tirelessly with her husband to send their children overseas to pursue higher education. The couple eventually settled in Toronto in 1982.

In Chinese, Sew Yin means Bright and Cheerful Smile 😊 – she lived up to her name, always cracking a joke and offering a warm smile! Most of her days were spent cooking delicious food to share with neighbours, tending to her plants, winning at mahjong, enjoying a cup of tea with loved ones, joining in residents’ activities and fund-raising. She was devoted to her faith, her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, always lending a helping hand to those in need. She touched countless lives - she will be deeply missed.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her family, friends, and her extended family at Le Centre d’Acceuil Héritage where she resided for the past 23 years. Her legacy will endure and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, she lives in our hearts and we will forever honour the exemplary life she lived and the lasting impact she made.

A memorial service celebrating our mother’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec 27th. Visitation at 12 PM and Mass at 1 PM at La Paroisse du Sacré-Coeur - 381 Sherbourne St, Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to CAH (Les Centres d’Acceuil Héritage) - an organization close to our mother’s heart, which provides French-language social and health services for elderly or vulnerable members of the Toronto Francophone community, or the Archdiocese of Toronto – Sacré-Coeur Parish, where she attended mass.
