With hearts full of love and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God, Schumann Lai. She passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at the age of 90.
Schumann was born on October 6, 1935, and lived a life defined by grace, resilience, and unwavering faith. Her greatest earthly joys were her family. She was the devoted and loving mother of Alexander Lai and Elena Lai, who will forever cherish her wisdom and warmth. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Kimberly and Sabrina, who brought immeasurable light and laughter to her later years.
Before retiring, Schumann was a dedicated and passionate teacher who poured her heart into nurturing young minds. For many years, she stood before her classrooms not just as an educator, but as a mentor and role model. Her patience, encouragement, and genuine care left an indelible mark on countless students, many of whom still speak of her with deep appreciation and love to this day. The impact she made in the lives of her students was a testament to her belief that every child deserved to be seen, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
For her entire adult life, Schumann served the Lord with a quiet and steadfast devotion. Her faith was not merely a Sunday practice but the very foundation of her daily existence. She dedicated countless hours to her church community, The Hong Kong SKH Good Shepherd Church, and the Hong Kong SKH Women's League, offering her time, prayer, and kindness to all who crossed her path. She served faithfully until her health recently began to wane, leaving a legacy of service that inspired everyone who knew her.
Schumann is now at peace. She has been reunited in glory with her beloved husband, Man Lai, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
Though we will miss her dearly—her gentle smile, her comforting presence, and her faithful prayers—we take great comfort in knowing she is resting securely in God's arms. Her memory will remain forever in our hearts.
A funeral service to celebrate Schumann's life and her homecoming will be held at Elgin Mills Cemetery on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Visitation will start at 9:00 am. Funeral service will start at 9:45 am.
