Ron passed peacefully on November 3, 2025 at the grand age of 91. He was loved by his late wife, Donna Donechy, and her family. Ron will be greatly missed by his children Michael (Barb), Margaret Stacey (Paul), Kevin, Christopher (Rosemary) and Jeffrey (Yvona). Proud grandfather of Michael (Savanna), William (Alicia), Daniel, Julia (Brendan), Catherine, Alexander and Margot, and of his great-grandchildren, Rowan, Talia and Brianna. Predeceased by his parents, Alfred ‘Kelly’ and Marjorie (McReavy) Tighe, and his two sisters Katheryn ‘Cath’ Tighe and Josephine 'Jo' McCarthy.
Ron grew up in Owen Sound and attended St. Mary’s primary, OSCVI high school and graduated from University of Toronto in 1956. He always claimed small town tastes in food – meat and potatoes – nothing fancy. This caused quite the stir at his retirement communities as he would ask for a PB&J rather than eat something with a “foreign name”. Most of all, Ron was a sports fanatic. He played 13 different sports over his lifetime and retired from competitive racquetball at the age of 80. He also loved to watch his beloved Detroit Red Wings – a team that he adopted because an older cousin, Pat McReavy played with them and whose name is on the 1941 Stanley Cup win roster - heady stuff for a kid.
Ron not only actively played and avidly watched sports, but he also loved his sports pools. He had upward of 10 clipboards going at one time with stats for each pool he was in. Much to the chagrin of his sons, he won the “Four Horseman” CFL pool and trophy this year, again.
A visitation for Ron will take place on Sunday November 9th from 1pm-3pm at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd, Toronto. There will be no service.
Special thank you to the multitude of caring medical professionals who made Ron’s life so much easier over the past year, at Lakeridge Health Whitby, Delmanor Wynford, North York General Hospital, Venvi Leaside and Michael Garron Hospital, especially nurse Eden who provided compassionate support to his family at the very end.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to one of the hospital foundations above, or to your favourite charity.
