It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Peter Eaboni at the age of 91 on Wednesday, October 15th after a long battle with kidney disease.
Ron will be lovingly remembered, and forever missed, by his family and his life-long friends. Ron was predeceased by his first wife, Marg, and his parents Peter and Tomasina (Tessie) Eaboni. Beloved husband to Donna for 30 years and devoted father to Robert (d. 2021), Sandra, Kerry and Heather (Marc), Ron was also a dear Papa to Cameron and Sadie.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Ron was incredibly proud of his long career at American Standard in Toronto. Starting as a clerk, Ron’s hard work and determination saw him rise through the ranks and he would go on to end his illustrious 40-year career as Vice President. More important than the awards and accolades were the many life-long and loyal friends Ron made along the way. From vendors and suppliers to colleagues and co-workers, Ron treated everybody with kindness, respect and dignity – traits which were equally as important to him outside of his professional life.
One of the many benefits of a life well-lived is the fact that Ron’s spirit will remain with us all and he will forever be remembered by both family and friends as a true gentleman. Ron’s kindness, warmth, guidance, and generosity were all characteristics he continued to share with his family and friends right up to the very end.
If you knew Ron at all, you knew just how passionate he was about sports. No armchair quarterback, Ron had an illustrious amateur baseball career as a young man, playing for a number of local teams, although he was admittedly a little too old when the Toronto Blue Jays finally came calling. Speaking of his beloved Jays, Ron was a loyal season’s seat holder for many years and could often be seen down at Exhibition Stadium – and later the Skydome - in his familiar perch behind home plate where he got to know many of the players’ wives, girlfriends and children. Ron was equally as loyal to the Maple Leafs, and he always had a thought or two as to what his Toronto teams were doing wrong - and needed to do right - to finally bring a championship home. When he wasn’t watching sports on TV or in person, Ron was also an avid golfer and played well into his 80s.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Joseph's Renal Hemodialysis Centre at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto, and it’s Community Renal Centre, Satellite Site on Islington Avenue for their care and support to Ron over the past three years. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the kind nurses and doctors at St. Joseph's Palliative Care for their loving attention to Ron and his family.
