It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert David “Bob” Smith, age 81, on May 28, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.
Bob was the devoted husband of Lynda Jane Smith (née Coldwell) for fifty-nine years, and the proud father of Geoffrey (Jennifer), Michael (Belinda), and Gregory (Leslie). He cherished his role as grandfather to Mia, Ryan, Tea, Dana, and Andrew. Bob was also the beloved brother of Peter (Jane), and the dear son of the late Anne and Robert.
Born on September 20, 1944, in Lindsay, Ontario, Bob embraced life’s challenges with enthusiasm and found his greatest joy in family. He lived a life of deep dedication — to those he loved, and to the communities he served. Over a career spanning four decades, he inspired and mentored countless colleagues, leaving a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Bob’s commitment to community was equally remarkable. He devoted many years to coaching hockey, served as President of the Rotary Club of Toronto, and held the role of CEO of Commemorative Services of Ontario. He also served as past President of CANA (Cremation Association of North America) and the ACA (American Cemetery Association) and was a proud member of the Cemetery Council. In everything he undertook, Bob was guided by a singular purpose: to make the world a better place.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
