My Dad Robert William Ariss passed away on Sept 07/2012 at 4pm.
He was born on June 21st 1945 in Unionville, Ontario and lived most of his life in
the surrounding area.
After many health issues throughout the years he went into a deep sleep and never awakened.
In January of this year he was admitted to the Markham Stouville Hospital and it became a procession
of downhill battles to get better .He was transferred to St.Mike’s and then eventually
back to Markham Stouville. I am grateful I was able to come home and spend his remaining months
advocating his healthcare and just being there at his bedside sharing our moments as we could.
Being able to make it home before he went into his coma having a conversation making him laugh and letting him know how much I cared and what he meant to me I will never forget.
He was able to communicate abit but due to a series of strokes he didn’t have the strength to come
out of his coma.
Dad had afew different jobs throughout his life and though he was never able to realize his dream
of becoming a paramedic, he sought out other means of service to fill this void.
For instance he began to volunteer as a Sports Trainer for “Markham Waxers” as well as the “Newmarket Fastball Mens Team”.
He took many courses to help him be his best as the Teams Trainer. During one of the Waxers games
he was instrumental in saving a young man’s life when someone skated over his jugular vein and he
kept this boy alive until the ambulance arrived it was written up in the local newspaper.
Dad travelled across Canada and the U.S. with the Newmarket Baseball and on one of those travels
he met my Mom and she moved to Markham. Though they couldn’t make the relationship work they
remained together for years.
He also held the title of ‘Uncle Bobby’ to some of his friends and of course to Amari and J’adore.
Amari will hold many special memories they shared together like learning to ride his new bike Uncle Bobby bought him and racing around the block while Uncle Bobby patiently waited for him to make
it back .Being picked up from daycare and school and hanging out and going to Sunday school where
the special treat was lots of food that was very important to the both of them!
Though J’adore is too young to remember Dad she definitely had his heart when she came along.
Tammy was there for Dad while I was away at school and helped him as his health became an issue
he played down so we wouldn’t worry about him. She became my eyes and ears and if it wasn’t for
her diligence I may never have made it home in time to spend with him before he fell into his coma.
Thank you Tammy I am forever grateful.
One of my Dad’s favourite moments was when I was born (the day after his birthday) and the saddest
was when his Mom passed away and moving off Helen Ave after 40 years.
What we will remember about him was his awesome sandwich making skills his delious meatball and spegitti and his white curly fluffy full head of hair .His love for his family and friend’s .His love of sports
and his love of comedy.
He will remembered by his sister Cathy Edwards and family.
His parents Bob and Thora passed away as well as favourite Aunt Jean.
I would like to say Thank You to everyone who visited my Dad and all the I.C.U medical staff who took
such good care of him and also treated me with compassion and care ,words cannot convey my
gratitude.
Dad we love you and will miss you forever Rest in Peace ...
