Ren Dunn died April 25th, at home in Waterloo, ON, with his family by his side. Survived by his wife of 63 years Fran, children Alan (Lisa), Robin (Wendy) & Susan, grandchildren Jack, Anna, Nicole & Samuel.
Raised in East-end Toronto, work led him to Ottawa where he met Fran and started their family, relocating later to the Toronto area. Both were extremely active in their communities.
Ren’s career spanned 50 years in the beverage industry, with lengthy stays at Pure Spring in Ottawa, and Wilson’s, Crush and the Perrier Group in Toronto. In business he was known for his practical approach, his humour when facing a challenge, and the trust he placed in his colleagues.
Largely self-taught, Ren was remarkably well-rounded in his interests and abilities. A lover of the outdoors, his greatest pastimes were gardening and fishing. He was notably well-read and appreciated puzzles, ‘bon-mots’ and dabbling in verse. He had a mind for business, avidly followed sports and enjoyed cooking for family occasions. And family was important to Ren. He and Fran hosted memorable Boxing Day parties annually and he rarely missed a chance to drop in on distant relations as he travelled about the province.
Aside from his family, Ren was most passionate about his time spent in the cabins at Norcan Lake near Calabogie. An idyllic retreat he partook in for 65 years, successfully passing on his love to subsequent generations. Perhaps he will be remembered there the most – as an ongoing presence, eternal father-figure and Tour Guide to those of us who follow.
At his request there will be no public remembrance. Donations can be made, In Memory Of, to the Canadian Cancer Society.
