Ralph Holt
April 29, 1920 - December 9, 2015
This delightful man passed away at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre on December 9, 2015 at the age of 95, surrounded by immediate family. He is survived, and will be missed tremendously, by his wife Beth, his son David, his step-daughter Ann Kippen, his step-sons Doug and Paul Kippen, and by many close friends.
Ralph was born in Toronto to William and Julia Holt. While attending Jarvis Collegiate, he developed his love and talent for the piano and trombone, and later played with notable big bands in dance pavilions around Toronto. He enlisted in the Armoured Corps (GGHG) of the Canadian Armed Forces in 1940 and proudly served overseas during WWII until his discharge in 1944. Upon returning to Canada, he joined Imperial Oil and worked in various roles and locations around Ontario, culminating in his favourite position with the marketing and retail property development department in Toronto.
After 36 years with Imperial Oil he retired, although he kept himself busy with various consulting positions. But his main passion throughout his retirement years was his cottage on Jack’s Lake in the Kawarthas. He and Beth travelled and took cruises until his health restricted him to local outings. His spirit to the very end was “let’s go”.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. J. Charles, Shama, and the entire staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to one of Ralph’s favourite charities – the Sunnybrook Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.
