Qing (Klara) Dong, aged 59, of Toronto, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Her strength, optimism and resilience remained unwavering through out her illness, offering comfort and inspiration to all who walked beside her during this journey.
Born in Tianjin, China, Klara grew up with a deep love of learning and a curiosity about the world that would guide her throughout her life. She graduated from Nankai University, where she developed lifelong friendships and began her professional journey in the tourism industry. Her early career allowed her to share her passion for culture and history, and she excelled in building bridges between people.
Klara later immigrated to Canada. With courage and determination, she embraced a bold career transition, retraining in the field of information technology. Through hard work and dedication, she became a valued expert in her profession. For the past 23 years, Klara proudly served at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), where she contributed her knowledge, skills, and heart to an institute devoted to healing children and supporting families. Her colleagues remember her commitment, humility, and the joy she brought to her work each day.
Beyond her professional life, Klara was known for her generous spirit and her ability to uplift others with kindness and sincerity. She approached every person and every challenge with a positive attitude that left a lasting impression on those around her. She loved baking for family and friends. She also cherished the outdoors—whether walking through parks, exploring trails, playing golf, or simply enjoying fresh air and sunshine.
Klara will be forever remembered for her laughter, her gentle wisdom, and the joy she brought to those fortunate to know her. Her warmth, resilience and love will remain in the hearts of those who know her.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and support staff at Markham–Stouffville Hospital and the Yee Hong Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
