Pi-Shia Chen (nee Tung), 93, passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital, on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

Pi-Shia was born April 3, 1933 in Taipei, Taiwan, to Cheng-Wang Tung and Chueh (Lin) Tung.

She grew up in Taipei, Taiwan, graduating from Chang Jung Girls’ High School in 1953. She entered the Taiwan Provincial Junior College of Nursing in 1954, graduating in 1956. Her education and training continued in Bad Hersfeld, a small town in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in northeastern Hesse, Germany (then West Germany). Being in Europe for several years, she travelled to Italy and other cities in Germany, like Frankfurt. Pi-Shia furthered her nursing experience and education at the University of Houston, in Texas, in 1967.

In 1968, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she met Hua-feng Chen. In 1969, she got married and lived briefly in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where she worked as a nurse at Royal Victoria Hospital, and had her first child, Jeffery. Two years later, Pi-Shia and Hua-feng moved to downtown Toronto, where their second child, Jolie was born. The family moved to Etobicoke three years later. She worked in downtown Toronto as a Registered Nurse (RN) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital until her retirement.

Pi-Shia enjoyed classical music, movies, and musicals. Hobbies included knitting, reading, and occasionally playing the piano.

She devoted her life to Christ, regularly going to church throughout her life, and being active in the New Life Gospel Church EFC, founded by her late brother, Thomas Tung.

Pi-Shia is survived by her husband, Hua-feng, daughter, Jolie Chen; and her extended family in Canada, the U.S., and Taiwan.

Friends and family may call on Saturday, May 30, 2026 to celebrate Pi-Shia’s life from 9-11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Group - Elgin Mills Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Centres – Richmond Hill, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, Ontario.
