With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Petroula Ouroumis on March 23, 2026, at the age of 99.
Petroula was born on February 13, 1927 in Meliti, Florina, Greece, to her beloved parents, Eleni and Ilia Kirkou. In 1951, she married the love of her life, John Ouroumis, and together they built a life grounded in devotion, resilience, and family. They were blessed with three amazing children Chrisoula, Angelo, and Chris.
In 1965 Petroula and John made the courageous decision to immigrate to Canada, where they established their home and created a life defined by hard work, generosity, and enduring friendships. Upon arriving, Petroula began working at Bond Boyd jewellery manufacturer where she remained dedicated until her retirement. Petroula embraced her new life with strength and determination, building a legacy that continues through generations.
Petroula will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity. Her home was always open—a welcoming place for family, friends, and neighbours alike. No one ever left her table hungry; she expressed her love through food, always ready with a warm meal and a kind smile.
Her Friday gatherings became a cherished tradition, where her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would come together to enjoy her famous Bopche (navy bean soup). She was an exceptional cook, and her tsoureki (sweet bread), lovingly made each Easter, was treasured by all who were lucky enough to receive it. There was a line up! No one could ever make it quite like her.
Petroula also found great joy in tending to her garden, taking pride in the vegetables she grew with care. She loved crocheting and was known for making “pinkies” (crocheted slippers), which she gifted generously to family and visitors alike. As the matriarch of the family, she was a source of wisdom, always offering thoughtful advice and steady guidance to those who needed it.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 75 years, John; her children, Chrisoula (Stavros) Angelo (Judy), and Chris (Tricia); her cherished grandchildren, Danny (Patty), Paul (Tina), Jessica, Julia, Christopher, Stephanie, and Kenneth; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Kristen, Stavros (Elena), Mila, Alexa, John, Sophie, Alyssa, and Evelyn.
Petroula is also survived by her dear sister Fani, and was predeceased by her sisters, Christina and Triayianni. She will be deeply missed by her brothers- and sisters-in-laws, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Petroula’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and family. She leaves behind a home filled with memories, traditions that will live on, and a family forever shaped by her warmth and strength. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
