Passed away peacefully in her 98th year on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel Guegueirre (1946 to 1972) and the late Albert Johnson (1979 to 1995).
Pearl was a loving mother to Sandra (late Terry) and Dan (Joanne), and adored grandmother/nana to Dan (Nicole), Chris, Lori (Gabe), Nicole (Ryan) and Keith (Lindsay). She was proud great grandmother to Lucas, Jack, Zachary, Sam, Andrew, Leah, Flynn and Sawyer. As she often said with a smile, “eight great grandchildren and only one girl in the bunch”. She was predeceased by her siblings Bob (Maisie), Wally (Betty), Marge (Don), and Laura (George), and sister-in-law to Sue (Ken). Pearl’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Pearl was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, her family enjoying her stories of ‘immigrating’ to Canada before Newfoundland joined confederation. Initially living in Quebec, Pearl made her way to Toronto with her sister Marge where she met Daniel Guegueirre and started a family following WWII.
Pearl spent her career as a receptionist, a role that suited her perfectly — she loved meeting people and had a natural gift for conversation. She was a very social person with a great sense of humour, a wonderfully bright smile and an infectious laugh.
Pearl will be fondly remembered by her loved ones for her signature dishes—endless pots of comforting split pea soup, festive Christmas cakes, shortbread cookies, coffee cakes, and a variety of delicious casseroles.
She also had a talent for crocheting beautiful dishcloths, destined to become a cherished keepsake for her family. One of Pearl’s favourite ways to relax was by watching television and never missed a chance to relax with a good program. Pearl’s love of music, particularly rock and roll, brought a vibrant energy to her life—she was still dancing to her favorite tunes even in her final days.
Pearl’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She treasured road trips to Kitchener to visit her sister Marg, family dinners in Scarborough, lunchtime picnics with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and any opportunity to reunite with her many nieces and nephews. These moments brought her immense happiness and created lasting memories for all.
A celebration of Pearl’s life will be held on Saturday, August 30th with visitation at 10:00 am, a service at 11:00 followed by a reception at the Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough.
At this time, the family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of True Davidson Acres Long-Time Home for the compassion and care shown to Mom during her many years there, especially the staff on 5 East.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Love you, Big Nan. You will be missed.
