It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Panagiota (Pat) Sofianidis who left us on Saturday December 20, 2025 at the age of 85.

Panagiota was born on February 18, 1940 in Katerini, Greece to parents Konstantinos and Efthalia Elias and immigrated to Germany in the early sixties where she met the love of her life, her husband Athanassios. They married in 1971 and immigrated to Canada in 1975.

Panagiota was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a fierce protector, and she would do anything for her girls. She was the foundation upon which her family flourished and remained strong throughout all the challenges that life brought. She was not just our "Mom", she was everyone's Mom, she considered every child, her "son" or "daughter." Her smile was always warm and inviting just as much as her hugs and kisses. Her sense of humor and stories were vivid and full of life as she always reminded us of who we are and where we came from. Nothing was impossible and anything was achievable. She had a generous and giving heart and always gave to those less fortunate.

Panagiota was also a gardening virtuoso and was commonly known by many as "Pat with the Green Thumb". She could revive any plant that was on its way out and make it thrive. Her flowers and garden were her pride and joy and strangers would often stop and look the magnificent array of botanical perfection that she created, some would often ask her if they could take photos of her garden. In addition to her flowers, her cooking was unsurpassed, she loved being in her kitchen creating nourishing and comforting meals for her family, we always knew something wonderful was waiting for us when we came home and smelled the fragrant aromas emanating from the kitchen.

She is survived by her loving husband Athanassios to whom she was married to for fifty four years, her two daughters, Areta and Effie, her son in law Peter and her grandson Remo Nicholas.

Gone but not forgotten, forever in our hearts.
