It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Olga Tomev, announce her passing, a week after her 98th birthday, on Valentine’s Day.
She is survived by her children, George, (Vicky), her daughter, Melinda, (Jack Kawa) and her Grandchildren, Brandon and Vanessa, (Brent), Cassandra, and Nicholas,(Jen). She is predeceased (2003),by her husband, James, her sister Sophie Vasileff and brother in law, Norman Vasileff.
Olga’s joy in life was in her family, as a devoted wife, Mother and Baba to her grandchildren. She and her sister, Sophie, who were both born in the town of Breznitsa, Macedonia, also shared a special bond throughout their lives and it was a relationship Olga truly cherished. They, along with their husbands James and Norman were owners of, “The Atlas Restaurant” on Queen St. in Toronto. We were always kept entertained by the numerous stories and cast of characters they loved to tell us about during their time at The Atlas….
The Tomev and Kawa families would like to extend thanks and express our appreciation to the dedicated caregivers who have provided care and comfort to our Mother, over the years, beginning with Sabina, Sue, Cheryl, and Riza, but it is with sincere gratitude we thank, her caregiver, Mercy for the compassionate care she provided Olga in her final years and weeks of life. Also, we would like to mention Jeanie Lori who started her relationship with Olga as a PSW, and later became a dear friend. In addition, we are thankful to PSW’s Vivian and Jennifer for their consistent, and dedicated care. Many thanks go to the Palliative Care Team at Southlake Hospital for all their efforts in ensuring the comfort and dignity of our Mother.
Olga will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her extreme love of family and friends. She loved social gatherings, Macedonian music and celebrations with family and friends. She will be deeply missed...
