Nora Veitch
June 13, 1939 - February 25, 2015
NORA ALICE VEITCH (nee PRITCHARD) The Pritchard family is sad to announce that for the second time in a month, we have lost another amazing sister. After a long and determined struggle with several illnesses, Nora, our wonderful sister and aunt passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the age of 76. Nora was the oldest of nine children of Edward and Eleanore Pritchard. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce and sister Ann and is survived by Edward (Dorelle), Nancy McPolin (Owen), June Barker (Bruce), Paul (Wendy), Joseph (Michael), Michael (Jackie) and Patrick (Cindy). She was very much beloved by her nieces and nephews Colleen McPolin-Kamiya and Joe McPolin and Lyndsey, Thomas, Christine, James and Sharon Pritchard. Nora worked at the Toronto Star in the Circulation Department for over 40 years where she made many great, lifelong friends. She will also be missed by the neighbours she met while living on Presley Avenue in Scarborough for 50 years. Throughout her life, Nora was an inspiration to us all with her quiet strength, friendly spirit and selfless, giving nature. Being the oldest of a large family is never an easy task. Nora joined in early to help out. The younger children have always looked on her as a second mother as she was a constant presence there to help and guide us. As her heath declined over the last few years, Nora was rarely heard to complain. She took each setback with reasoned acceptance and dignity. She never stopped and asked, "Why me?" Instead, she would use the time to make a joke about her situation. She liked to laugh. It was always a pleasure to be in her company, right to the end. We take comfort in her passing knowing that she is reunited with her sister Ann who was her constant companion throughout her life. It is our hope that somewhere they are having tea and sharing a sandwich as they always did. We would also like to thank the staff at Rayoak Place for the special care they gave Nora and the friendship they gave Ann over the last three years. Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from Noon to 2 p.m. A service will follow from 2 to 2:30 p.m. A reception for family and friends will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. All these events will be at Pine Hills Cemetery and Visitation Centre, 625 Birchmount Road (at St. Clair), Scarborough. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Parkinson Society Canada or the charity of your choice.
