It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Nhi Mui Tran, 86, on February 14th at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Nhi Mui, affectionately known as “Mama,” was the devoted wife of Vinh, the beloved mother of Eric (Elizabeth), and the adored grandmother of Justin and Sydney. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, resilience, and boundless love.
Born on May 14th, 1939, Mama spent her early years on a farm in Vietnam, where she developed a deep love for nature and cooking. At 32, she was forced to leave behind the only life she had ever known to escape the turmoil in her homeland and begin anew in Canada. With the support of sponsors from the Knox Presbyterian Church, Mama and her family settled in Oakville, Ontario. This new beginning was not without difficulty, as she had to navigate the challenges of rebuilding her life in a place where both the language and culture were completely unfamiliar. Ultimately, it was Mama’s courage, resilience, and unshakeable will that turned this foreign land into their new home.
Despite all the hardships she faced, Mama never lost her warmth or deep appreciation for life. She was the epitome of strength, yet her heart was always soft and endlessly kind. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family, yet she always found something to laugh about. Most of all, Mama continuously found joy in the little things of everyday life. From tending to her garden every morning, where she grew all her favourite vegetables, to preparing tables of food to fill the stomachs of her loved ones, there was nothing that brought Mama greater joy or happiness.
Mama’s journey from hardship to a life filled with endless love and laughter remains an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be remembered not only for her sacrifices, but for her laughter, her unwavering strength, and the deep love she poured into her family.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Special thanks to the staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for the care, compassion, and love they showed Mama during her time there.
