Newton passed away peacefully in his 73rd year on April 24, 2012. Caring husband to Pat and cherished father to Cathy Clarke Marino [Joe], and also Grampa to Michael Clarke [Laura]. Brother of Harold Preet [Grace] of Calgary, nephew Nathan Preet [Michelle] Krista of Calgary, niece Renee [predeceased], brother Gary Preet [Charlene] of Vancouver. He leaves his extended family from Orillia - Melody Jeanes [Brian Banks] Laura, Elisa and Sean; Glenn Jeanes [Sandra Forget] Tim, Christina [Josh] Hunter, Adecyne and Shannon. Son of Hazel Preet [Weaver] predeceased. Adopted by a loving mother Marjorie [Hartley] and Alvin Brown, both predeceased. Employed by the City of Toronto for 37 years, he always enjoyed working outside. The family is truly grateful to the Transportation Depart. for their compassion while Newton was recovering from heart surgery. In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteer work with Calvary Church [Out of Cold Program and assisting with Young at Heart luncheons]. An avid tennis player, he enjoyed competitive games at Sir Winston Churchill Park Tennis Club and Don Mills Tennis Club, and he served on their executive. He also loved the challenge of Duplicate Bridge. He dabbled in acting at Long Bayou Little Theatre where he made many new friends from the USA and Canada. We are grateful to CCAC [Wendy Corber], Princess Margaret Hospital [Drs. Christine Elser, Rebecca Wong, John Bryson and Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care [Dr. Russell Goldman]. Special thanks to the Baycrest Hospital and their many compassionate nurses and staff, especially Mernell, Peter, Delrose and Arnold. Private cremation, with a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
