Nazario Balane was born on July 28, 1946 in Iligan City, Philippines. He travelled to many countries before calling Canada his home. There he became the late loving grandpa of Jeuel, Janeuel and Jazeuel Balane and a paternal figure of Jasmine and Reuel Balane.
Over the 40 years Nazario lived in Canada, he managed to be a wise guardian and compassionate family member. Though he was often regarded as the “quiet type”, Nazario made life long friends at his workplace, at the malls and even those he met through mutual connections. Anyone, from his friends to his family would describe him in one single word: selfless. Nazario always put others first before himself. He opted to help without asking for anything in return. Nazario provided genuine care and concern for those he believed deserved it. This kindness was not limited to the people he knew but also strangers in need. Nazario was a man who endured heavy loss and carried that weight throughout his long life, yet he still managed to keep his heart open to everyone. All his pain was harboured in his heart. Almost every fear and anxiety was hidden away as if he was shouldering this to not burden others. Nazario kept many things secret even down to his favourite colour. Though if one paid attention they could see the things he enjoyed through his quiet displays like his extensive collection of records and cassettes and his love for ABBA. Nazario led a life of adventure even if his trips were simple drives to the mall for crosswords or taking his granddaughters to a park. He was a foundational teacher to his family, showing the importance of appreciation of life through his silent benevolence. He believed in the people he taught, only holding their hand long enough to know when to let them go on their own. Like when teaching his family members to ride a bicycle for the first time or how to drive. His level of patience was unmatched, it was an unbothered serenity only a man who had witnessed pain and joy could have. Even down to his final day, he passed on with a calm smile after seeing his best friend and the two people he helped to build a life for. There was no fear, just a pleasant acceptance knowing the people he was leaving behind were okay without him.
