The Maiato family are deeply saddened to announce that Natalia “Germana” Furtado Maiato, Mãe by her children, and Vavó by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, has passed away on April 18th, 2026, at 10:08 A.M., at the age of 85, after a long battle of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was a widow to the late husband, Antonio da Estrela Maiato, who had been married for 57 years. She will be remembered by her five children: Antonio (deceased), Francisco (Anna), Fernando (Herica), Natalia, and Carlos (Ozlem) Maiato. She was a devoted grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Kerry, Christopher, Brianna, Fernando, Stefany, Krystal, Cassandra, Sara, Derin, Mark, Jessica, as well as a devoted great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren: Marcus, Adrien, and Rebekah. Natalia was born on May 16th, 1940, in Rabo de Peixe, Açores, Portugal. Natalia was the last surviving of the Soares siblings: Maria Dos Anjos, Manuel, Lurdes, and Antonio.
She was a major Sporting, Maple Leafs, and Blue Jays fan. Natalia will always be remembered by how she used to brighten any room with her laughter, her smile, her kindness, and her devotion to always help those in need. Natalia was known by many as a simple, humble, woman, with a heart of gold, and will be missed eternally.
The visitation will be held at the Meadowvale Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres, at 7732 Mavis Rd, Brampton, Ontario, on Thursday April 23rd, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 24th, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Cristo Rei Parish at 3495 Confederation Pkwy, Mississauga, Ontario, followed by the funeral procession to Prospect Cemetery, at 1450 St. Clair Ave W, Toronto, for the entombment/burial.
