Our dear Nancy – we love you “the whole row.”
Nancy Jean Scollard died peacefully in Toronto, Ontario on September 19, 2025, at the age of 81. Nancy (beloved wife, mum, gramma, big sis, auntie, cousin and friend) will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband Steve of 52 years; children: Tom (Melissa) and Janet (Ryan); grandchildren: Temple and Foston; siblings: Elaine, Alan (Brenda), James (Joan); brothers in-law: David (Rose) and Tim (Gord) as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Nancy was predeceased by her loving parents, Ian and Marion Rankin (nee: Hay), parents in-law Winifred (‘Win’) and Norman Scollard, sister-in-law Mary-Sue Rankin (aka Soupy) and brother-in-law Peter McKnight.
Born in Ottawa, ON, Nancy grew up in Pointe Claire, QB, Ottawa, and Port Credit, ON. Proud graduate of Port Credit Secondary School and then later Queens University – Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Biology and Chemistry. Following University Nancy spread her wings and spent over 2 years hitch-hiking and working in Europe building her passions to learn languages, interest in meeting new people and openness to going with the flow.
In Toronto, Nancy worked as a Research Assistant at Sanofi Pasteur (formerly Connaught Laboratories) for 35 years and was a beloved member of Lansing United Church for 45 years. Nancy enjoyed time with her husband/best-friend Steve and lovingly raised her two children ‘Mr. T’ and ‘baby Ja’ with annual trips to the cabin, Round Lake, Christmas in Kingston and camping with family at Blue Skies Music Festival. Nancy continued to enjoy traveling after retirement with Steve, siblings and friends (Carol and Linda) to Mexico, Cuba, cruises as well as Europe to visit family. Nancy was thrilled to become a ‘Gramma’ in her last 7 years and enjoyed lots of snuggles, kisses, laughs and fun with her two grandchildren and two fur-babies (Mosey and Muffin). Nancy is remembered for her genuine and welcoming spirit, her laugh and easy-going nature and for being just “poyfect.”
Family is deeply grateful to the caring and compassionate staff at Alzheimer’s Society – Toronto, North York Seniors Centre – Day Away Program, PSWs who provided loving support in the home and the exceptional care from One Kenton Place to Nancy and our family these past 7 months.
