Najat Melnikov passed away peacefully and gracefully, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 10:24 am after a lengthy illness. She was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, one of many children born to Shakir and Mary Auchi. She married Igor Melnikov in 1958 and had an adventurous life with Igor and her children, living in countries such as the US, France, Columbia, Philippines and Mexico, and finally settling down in Canada where they lived for over 30 years. Najat was a lover of life, and she surrounded herself with all things beautiful. She was amazing at decorating the homes she lived in, making each one unique and adopting the style of the culture where she was living at the time. She also was an excellent cook and an impeccable dresser. No matter where she was going, she looked fabulous and beautiful. Najat’s first priority was to her husband Igor, and her children. Her grandchildren took over that spotlight, and she showered them with undivided attention and love. Najat was the perfect example of how to enjoy life and how to love. She was very giving and generous, and loved her family and friends very much. She will be missed deeply by all. Najat is survived by her husband Igor, her three Children, David (and Eliana), Dina Anthony (and Bill), Ivan (and Jocelyn), grandchildren Jasmine, David, Andrei and Alex, sister Nidhal, and brothers, Nadhmi, Nazar, Nabil, and Nather. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Trillium Mississauga Health Centre, in particular the wonderful nurses and doctors at the Vascular Ward, ICU and Complex Continuing Care where she spent her last months.
