Muriel "Cherry" Ramirez
August 30, 1924 - January 4, 2015
The family of Muriel "Cherry" Ramirez wish to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. Born to her parents, Ferdinand and Alfreta (Posy) Knox on August 30, 1924 in Jamaica, "Cherry" as she became known fondly by one and all, married Enrico Ramirez in 1945 and with "Rico" became the proud parents of Julio, Maria and Margueritta "Maggie". She loved fashion, and was admired for her ability to "whip up" the fanciest of dresses for her two daughters on special occasions. Throughout her life, Cherry explored and lived many career paths with her very first job being a telephone receptionist with Martin's Garage, a well known establishment in the city of Kingston where Rico and her lived most of their married life. Her love of people and travel led her into the field of Tourism including running of a Gift Shop for the world renowned Sandals Hotel in Montego Bay. Her love of the land and especially flowers led her into floral arranging. Her greatest pride and joy apart from her children was the home she built "brick by brick" in Discovery Bay and where she generously entertained not just family and friends, but also visitors to the island. The home and its lush gardens stand as a testimony to her indomitable will and incredible "green thumb" and which she left reluctantly upon her retirement because she wanted to be closer to her children and grandchildren in Toronto, Canada.
Muriel "Cherry" Ramirez will be deeply missed and never forgotten by her children, Julio, Maria, and Margueritta, her sons in law, Ronald Hodgins and Marcello Perri, her brothers, Balfour, Howard, Hector and Roderick Knox, her granddaughters Isadora and Erin, her grandson, Sebastian, her niece Sharon Gallinger and her family, and her many dear friends and "adopted" children and grandchildren from amongst them. Grandy as she also was fondly known to many certainly always did it "HER WAY" and a "One of a Kind" never to be duplicated! In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations made to the Alzheimer's Society.
"Walk good" sweet lady!
