Mulligan, Francis John – November 17, 1925 – October 25, 2013. WWII Veteran, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, 4th Battalion; SMWIA Local 30

With sorrowing hearts we bade farewell to a devoted husband, loving father and treasured friend. Frank leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Shirley (Largy). Together with Shirley, Frank raised their three children; Kathryn (Bob Tuttle), Maureen, and Gerald (Danielle) in Weston, ON. He was blessed with 6 granddaughters; Nora and Eva, Anne, Lori, Kimberley and Heather, and 5 great-grandchildren; Anthony and Austin, Aidan, Abby, and Ethan. Frank also leaves behind his brother and dear friend, John. He was predeceased by parents Lawrence (1928) and Ellen (Agnew) (1982), his brother Lawrence and his sister Mary.

Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, Frank served his country with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, 4th Battalion, and after his demobilization, immigrated to Canada in April 1948.

In 1993, Frank revisited a “moment in his personal history” as he retraced war weary memories through Germany and much of Europe. This was a pilgrimage he cherished, and was grateful to have shared the experience with his son Gerald.

Frank was fortunate to have visited Glasgow one last time in 2006, this time in the company of his granddaughter Anne. A private guided tour of Celtic Park highlighted his sojourn home. “You’ll never walk alone.”

Frank and Shirley enjoyed many holidays abroad, and we are grateful that they were able to travel during their retirement years. Their generosity often saw one or two extra travelling companions accompany them on their tours.

Frank leaves us with a legacy of love, loyalty to family and a lead by example philosophy. His commitment to always help see others through their challenges served and supported his family in countless ways and gestures. Surely, qualities to be emulated in honour of Frank’s memory. We loved our hero; our giant of a man whose depth few knew.

O wad some pow’r the giftie gie us, to see oursel's as others see us. ~ Robert Burns

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Credit Valley Family Health Team, Dr. Gihane Zarifa for her exemplary care over many years, the guidance and consideration of Gord Canning, NP, and Frank’s palliative nurse Lynda, for the care she provided Frank and the support and confidence she instilled in his caregivers, the Rathburn Pharmacy pharmacists and staff whose accommodations were limitless. Our thanks for the seamless support of the CCAC team from case manager to PSW‘s, Respite Recharge and of course, dear family and friends whose love carried Frank and his family through this difficult journey.

To the few ~ thanks for the company – Frank
