Monika Stegmann passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on January 2, 2025. She was born on April 10, 1953, to Anna (née DeBoy) and Sebastian Stegmann in Mömlingen, Germany. She was sister to Irene, Anita, Michael (Mariana), and Peter (Jane); proud mother of Nigel (Danielle), Dane (Lisa), and Scott (Hannah); and loving grandmother to Sophia, James, and Parker to whom she was affectionately known as “Omi.”
A Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Monika was a fierce advocate for healthy living and never shy to share the knowledge she had diligently accrued over many years, knowledge she applied during her lengthy battle with cancer. She possessed a singular determination for self-improvement and was always striving to be the best friend, neighbour, sister, mother, and grandmother she could be. Monika delighted in life and in the company of her robust social circle. Friendships new and old were a constant source of joy for her and time spent with friends was always cherished. A lifelong athlete and lover of nature, Monika was happiest on the tennis court or in her magnificent garden. She enjoyed learning, teaching, and experiencing new cultures which she explored through hiking vacations around the world in her later years. Monika never forgot her heritage and made a joyful trip to Germany last year where she was able to reconnect with friends and family.
We will remember Monika’s kindness, thoughtfulness, confidence, and commitment to helping others. She gave of herself generously and could always be counted on when a friend, sibling, or son was in need. Monika dedicated herself fully to every endeavour and always gave her best as she knew no other way to live life. Monika would want us to honour her by practicing gratitude and forgiveness, being nicer than necessary, and thinking about how we can make someone else’s life better today.
