After a well-lived and full life, our mother, Monica Yuko Matsubuchi (née Yuasa), passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026 in Mississauga, ON. She joins her husband, Frank Matsubuchi; her parents, Nui and Yahei Yuasa; and her sister, Leona Yuasa, and is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Moira (Bernard) and Marcie, and her grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) and Melanie.

Monica was born and raised in Steveston, BC. After being relocated with her parents and sister to the internment site in Greenwood, BC., she and her family moved to Japan in 1946. Years later Monica returned to Canada where she met and married her husband in Montreal. They eventually moved with their daughters to Mississauga, ON where Monica lived for 52 years.

Quiet, unassuming, and wise, Monica’s life has been one of kindness, honesty, and appreciation. She enjoyed cooking and always had a special place in her heart for children and a love of nature. In her home, she found joy in gardening, her flowers, and the birds who flocked to her backyard.

Monica dedicated her life to her family and, through volunteer work, her community and was constantly learning, reading, and creating works of art. She leaves with us her many china painting, needlework, sewing, and knitting treasures.

On June 9, 2026, family and friends will gather together to celebrate the life of our mother at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Toronto. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone for their kind words of support and their memories of her that they have shared with us.
