Monica Gloria Brown
October 26, 1940 - September 5, 2014
Monica Gloria Brown, 73-years-old, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 5, 2014, after her valiant fight with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried through the pain. During the last stage of her life, the Hill House Hospice staff ensured that she transitioned peacefully. Monica was born on October 26, 1940 in Jamaica to Nerissa Palmer and Bertram Bartley. Monica is the oldest of 8 children. She joins her late sister, Sissy and brother Bervin.
Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers and loving and generous personality, it is no surprise that Monica became a Nurse. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor. She was transparent and was real, qualities that won the trust and hearts of many. Her constant nurturing love, patience and warm smile will never be forgotten.
Married for over 20 years, but due to life circumstances, she was divorced from Herbert Brown. They maintained a cordial relationship. Again, a testament to her kind, sincere ways. Monica faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking, gardening and connecting with her friends. She liked to sing, dance, watch comedy shows for a good laugh, read her bible and prayed often and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, chatting with friends and family.
Her surviving family members are numerous, but mainly include:
Mother of 2 Children: Marika Fraser and Michelle Brown
Grandmother to 2: Naomi and Mya Fraser
Immediate family: 3 Sisters: Carmen, Ivy and Ruth and 2 Brothers: Terrance and David
Son In-Law: Richard Fraser
Other family members: Unfortunately too many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and God-children to list or even count.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually, but including: Hospice – the amazing Hill House Team, family and friends – either through prayer and/or visits, and even random acts of kindness through total “strangers”. A special thank you to the staff at MacKenzie Health Hospital for making Mom as comfortable as possible and to the staff that guided us and offered comfort and words of advice through challenging circumstances.
Mom, you will be missed, but never forgotten
RIP Sweet, beautiful Monica Gloria Brown
