It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Milica Makrevski. Born on February 5, 1933, in Grasnica, Macedonia, Milica passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Milica was a devoted wife for nearly 70 years and is now reunited with her beloved husband, Vlade. She was predeceased by her parents, Spasa and Pandil, as well as her sister Cveta and brother-in-law Mate. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings Marica (the late Pande), Mile (Cveta), and Bosko (Velika).
Milica leaves behind her daughter Violeta (Blagoja), son Bob (Kelle), grandchildren Peter (Kim), Steven (Amanda), Hayley (Michael), and Megan (Mitchell), and her cherished great-grandchildren Brielle, Karys, and baby Harris.
Though she lived a life of modest means, Milica’s strength, warmth, and enduring spirit were extraordinary. She immigrated to Canada on March 17, 1965, and worked tirelessly on various farms harvesting fresh produce.
Milica found joy in working with her hands and spent time in the kitchen at Hillsdale. She took great pride in cooking for her family, always preparing generous meals that sent everyone home with full hearts and full plates. Her zelnic, petalitsi, baklava, and homemade pizza will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.
Her true passion, however, was in sewing—first as a seamstress, then at Chrysler, where she sewed automotive seats. She also lovingly created clothes for herself and her family, always happy to mend a hem or fix a broken seam.
The family is deeply grateful to the personal support workers who enabled Milica to live independently for as long as possible, especially during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Special thanks go to the compassionate caregivers at Heritage Harbour and Fairview Lodge Nursing Home, who provided her with comfort and care over the past two years.
We are truly touched by the outpouring of love, support, and kindness extended to us during Milica’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Milica’s memory may be made to St. Nedela Macedonian Orthodox Church (Ajax), the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, or a charity of your choice
